Weekly teleconferences continue as we consider work progress and negotiations strategy from material developed in commercial redress and cultural redress. We met last Friday and we concluded that we can achieve AIP by the second quarter of 2007. Now that two of the OTS Team have returned from leave we are seeking to get three meetings scheduled before the end of this year.
Ken Clarke of Nga Paerangi has been overseas in September which has meant that we haven’t met again with Whanganui Iwi. However there have been some other developments which have been concerning for us. The issues to do with the Kaitoke Prison and a changing negotiation team for Whanganui Iwi have will delay our objective to achieve agreement with Whanganui Iwi about boundaries. However we will continue to engage with them.
We have now been through our first phase of consultation with all hapu in regard to the potential sites for cultural redress. Follow up actions vary from hapu to hapu but the team is excited by the positive response we are getting from hapu as they now recognise the importance of thinking strategically from a cultural development point of view.
The hapu profile documents will be complete by the end of next week. This will provide a basis for negotiating the cultural redress section of the settlement. Te Roopu Rangahau will work closely with the negotiation team and any other hapu people in order to accurately reflect the current position and respective aspirations of all hapu.
The Forestry Report compiled by our advisor is in draft form. This is a comprehensive analysis of a crucial issue in the Commercial redress work stream.
Discussion is also being held about our values and vision from a commercial perspective in terms of Te Runanga o Ngati Apa getting assistance from advisors to define this and that to translate down to what commercial redress we seek. Korero has been centred on the Runanga having another retreat with the likes LTF in order for an overall commercial strategy to underpin this part of the negotiation process.
Registrations are now well over 4400. We have also received a copy of the data base from the Tuhono program. The team have analysed the data and calculated that there is another 800 on this data base that can be followed up and added to our registration data base.
