Te Rünanga o Ngäti Apa

Ratification of Deed of Settlement and

Post-Settlement Governance Entity

Te Rünanga O Ngäti Apa who are mandated to negotiate the settlement of the historical claims of Ngati Apa (North Island), encourage all registered members of Te Rünanga o Ngäti Apa to attend upcoming information hui for the purposes of ratifying a Deed of Settlement and Post-Settlement Governance Entity.

Our mandated representatives have negotiated a Deed of Settlement based on the Agreement in Principle signed with the Crown on 12 July 2007.  A proposed Post-Settlement Governance entity has also been developed to receive and manage the settlement assets.  Both the Deed of Settlement and the proposed Post-Settlement Governance Entity must be voted on by the claimant community.  Information Hui to provide information about the Deed of Settlement, post-settlement Governance Entity and how to vote will be held as follows:

We strongly encourage you to attend one of these hui before voting.  This will enable you to ask any questions in person and fully discuss the Deed of Settlement and the post-settlement Governance Entity with the Ngati Apa (North Island) Claims Team.

Registration

Only registered adult (18 years and over) members of Te Rünanga o Ngäti Apa are eligible to vote.  If you are yet to register with Te Rünanga o Ngäti Apa, you have until 30th September 2008 to do this.  Your application will be subject to eligibility verification by the Te Rünanga o Ngäti Apa Verification Committee responsible for determining membership.  You will then be entitled to cast a special vote.  For registration details please contact the office (details below).

If you are already registered and will turn 18 years of age on or before 4 October 2008, you will also need to cast a special vote.  Please contact the office for more details.

Voting Process

Voting will be by secret ballot. Votes can be lodged by post or at one of the information hui.  Voting papers and explanatory information will be distributed by post to registered members on 8th September 2008, and closes at 12pm on Saturday 4th October 2008.
